The Bunaken National Marine Park

This part of North Sulawesi was undergone multiple geologic stages. It is considered to be a ‘young’ continent of 5-24 million years of age which has undergone explosive volcanism more recently (1.5 to 5 million years ago) which resulted in the volcanic tuff that characterizes the existing topography. Manado Tua is an inactive volcano formed in a classical cone shape with a 27-45' slope.

The island rises over 600 m above sea level, the highest elevation in the park. Bunaken Island has volcanic origins with a significant amount of uplifted fossil coral. At the west and central part of Bunaken Island (71m high) there is a flat plateau about 5Om above mean sea level (msl). Nain Island is also a dome-shaped island, 139m in height and with a slope of 20-40".

Mantehage Island is relatively flat and seems to be sinking into the sea. The island has extensive mangrove forest flats, partially separated by saltwater channels. Siladen is a low-lying coral sand island with no significant topography.

Arakan-Wawontulap and Molas-Wori on the mainland of North Sulawesi are relatively flat areas at the base of volcanic hills. The park has unique bathymetry which is an attraction for divers. The absence of a continental shelf in the northern part of North Sulawesi allows the coastal area of the park to drop directly down the continental slope.

The sea depth between the islands of the park is 200-1,840m deep. In the coral ecosystem alone, Bunaken National Park covers an area of 89,095 hectares. The larger North Sulawesi area (also possessing potential for fbture inclusion in this WH site) contains approximately 280,000 ha.

The marine national park area is home to thousands of different species of fish, coral, endangered marine mammals and reptiles, birds, molluscs and mangrove species. The Sanghie-Talaud island chain immediately to the north of the national park area is equally diverse (440 species from 52 sites in 2.3 million hectares). The uniqueness of Bunaken and the wider North Sulawesi area is its density of diversity in close proximity to a growing and populous part of Indonesia.

If you had ever dreamed to meet a mermaid who lives under the sea, you might be able to make your dream come to reality, at least, by viewing the life at the bottom of the sea that you can do in the Bunaken sea park. Indeed, there is no real mermaid you can find there, but you will see the beauty as you were in the world of fairy tale.

Bunaken is an island of 8.08 km² at Manado Bay, situated in the north of Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. This Island is part of Manado city, the capital city of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. There is Sea Park in Bunaken Island as part of National Park of Old Manado Ocean.

In this Bunaken sea park, visitors can see various biological sources at the bottom of Bunaken Sea. To reach this park, you can go by sea transportation like motor boat. Visitors are charged Rp.25 thousand per person for one visit. The trip to Bunaken Sea Park Location from Manado City takes 40 minutes by motor boat.

Translucent waters of Bunaken sea make numerous sea biota lives is crystal-clear. There are 13 coral reefs genera in this park waters dominated by edge ridge of rock and block ridge of rock. The most attractive view is vertical steeply sloppy coral reef as far as 25-50 meter.

In addition, about 91 fish types are found in this Bunaken National Park, amongst other things locally known gusimi horse fish (Hippocampus), white oci (Seriola rivoliana), yellow-tail lolosi (Lutjanus kasmira), goropa (Ephinephelus spilotoceps and Pseudanthias hypselosoma), ila gasi (Scolopsis bilineatus), and so on.

Visitors may also meet with mollusk types like giant kima (Tridacna gigas), goat head (Cassis cornuta), nautilus (Nautilus pompillius), and tunikates/ascidian.

Furthermore, visitors may do diving with scuba diving if feeling unsatisfied by viewing only from on board. Bunaken Park has 20 diving spots with varied depth to 1.344 meter. Of the 20 diving spots, 12 spots of them are situated around Bunaken Island. These twelve diving spots are mostly visited by divers and under the sea panorama lovers.

Most part of 12 diving spots in Bunaken Island is situated adjacent from the southeast to the north west of this island.

In this area is found underwater great walls also called as hanging walls, or giant coral reef walls vertically standing and curve upward. These coral reef walls are also the food source of fishes in the waters around Bunaken Island.

At least, from now on you may make your schedule available to sound out the sexy life of underwater. The good time to visit Bunaken is along May to August.

Beautiful Ampera Bridge

Ampera Bridge was constructed in April 1962, after getting approval of President Soekarno. At first, this 1,177 meters long and 22 meters wide bridge was called Bung Karno Bridge. It was officially opened on 30 September 1965 by Let. Gen. Ahmad Yani. However, following a political turmoil in 1966 i.e., when anti-Soekarno movement was stronger, the bridge was renamed to Ampera Bridge. Palembang citizens, however, prefer to call it "Musi Project".

Parts of this 944 tons bridge can lift up and down about 10 meters per minute. It has two lifting towers of 63 meters tall. Distance between these two towers is 75 meters. They have two pendulums, weighing about 500 tons each.

When the middle shares of the bridge is lifted, wide ship of 60 meters wide and a maximum of 44.50 meters tall can pass to ford of Musi River. And when the middle shares of this bridge is not lifted, maximum height of ships that can pass under the bridge is only nine meters above the water level. Unfortunately, at present, the bridge cannot be lifted for safety reasons.

Tour Padang

The scenery of Padang, capital of West Sumatra province, tens of years ago with its Gunung (mount) Padang relating to the legend "Malin Kundang", but now the condition had drastically changed with more places of tourist interests. Besides Gunung Padang, the Padang city administration had also built the Siti Nurbaya long bridge over the Muaro Padang river where many commercial ships cast anchor at the Muaro (estuary) small port.Near the Muaro Padang, visitors can easily enjoy the spicy and delicious Padang food, especially from afternoon until night. Many food stalls at Padang beach serve lots of well-known Padang food including "Talua Katuang" (boiled sea turtle eggs). According to Padang mayor Fauzi Bahar, in an effort to provide better access from the city centre to the Minangkabau International Airport (BIM), the city administration has started constructing a 25-km main road.Sikuai Island enchantment.
Only recently, several Indonesian artists including noted movie actress Christine Hakim and foreign journalists visited the new Sikuai Island resort, some 30 to 40 minutes trip by boat from Muaro Padang. With the wind blowing softly, the boat ride to Sikuai island became more interesting.
Sikuai (meaning come here), which is about 40 hectares wide and some 400 meters above sea level, is one of 19 islands in the Padang mayoralty, or in Bungus sub-district, West Sumatra.
In the island's waters, tourists can enjoy snorkeling, diving, fishing or just swimming while enjoying the sight of marine animal species and coral reefs. By only swimming some meters away, one could enjoy the sight of marine animal species including coral reefs in a huge aquarium, and the white beach on which they could easily walk. In addition, the island's natural forests with a lot of coconut trees are also very interested. According to Rikwan, the new island resort manager, many visitors, including honeymooners, to the island stayed there for several days, while enjoying delicious foods and the island's young coconuts, as well as spending their leisure time in the open air.

More about Indonesia

Indonesia is the biggest archipelago in this world. That simply means Indonesia has more than 17,000 islands. If people in France claim that their country is the most romantic place in the world and people in India claim that their country is the most exotic place in the world then people in Indonesia should claim that their country is the most beautiful country in the world. It’s just simply beautiful.

Bali, the number one tourism destination in Indonesia, was awarded the best island in 2007 by Travel and Leisure Magazine. Bali is famous for its great beaches and fantastic cultural attractions. Every international tourist who visits Bali will be amazed by the beauty of Jimbaran beach and Sanur beach. Every tourist will also be entertained so much by the wonderful Kecak dance: The famous Balinese spiritual dance. Bali is indeed very popular and sometimes international tourists even think that Bali is a country instead of part of Indonesia.

But Indonesia is not just Bali. I have been to the mountain of Bromo twice. The mountain is located in East Java and to see the mountain when the sun is rising is an experience that can’t and shouldn’t be described by words. In my opinion the word “beautiful” is not beautiful enough to depict the scenery.

Indonesia is the place if you want to visit Bunaken: A location that some people believe to be the best diving location in the world. It has the clearest seawater in the world with wonderful and breathtaking hard corals, critters, and different fish species.

Indonesia is a beautiful place and there’s no doubt about it. Indonesia is a country blessed with countless great natural resources. You can find beautiful locations from Sabang to Merauke, easily.

Indonesia is simply the place you wish you’d die in.

Sadly, with all the beautiful natural resources Indonesia has not yet shown any improvement in the tourism industry. In 2007, about 5.5 million international tourists arrived in Indonesia. If you think that result is good enough, think again. In the same year 10.3 million tourists visited the small country Singapore and 14.4 million tourists went to Thailand. The champion, Malaysia enjoyed 20.97 million tourists in 2007.

This condition is a painful fact that should be reviewed carefully by the Indonesian Government. The government should think hard and find the secret why a country as small as Singapore could attract more tourists.

There’s an interesting fact that the Indonesian Government should be concerned about, including all of us. Based on the statistics released by Singapore Tourism Board and Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, Indonesia is their major tourist source. Indonesia was the first tourist-generating market for Singapore’s tourism in 2007. And Indonesia was the second tourist-generating market for Malaysia’s tourism in 2007.

It seems to me that rich Indonesians prefer to visit Singapore and Malaysia rather than go to local tourism attractions. Well, I don’t think we can blame them since those two countries offer better experience of modern tourism. If only the government could ban people from going to Singapore and Malaysia and force them to visit Papua instead.

The new tourism campaign, Visit Indonesia Year 2008, might be the answer for this problem. This new campaign was designed to attract 7 million tourists in 2008. I really hope the campaign is able to attract more tourists to visit Indonesia. But to see how the Ministry of Culture and Tourism had shown its pessimism to be able to achieve its own target even before the campaign was fully implemented, I don’t think Indonesia can improve its tourism industry significantly.

My pessimism grew bigger after I had the chance to compare the new Indonesia’s official tourism website with neighbor countries’ websites. It may not be fair to compare the website with the ones owned by Singapore and Malaysia. But if the Vietnam’s official tourism website is better, I think we have a serious problem.

Bali the most perfect island

Welcome to the tropical paradise of Bali, Indonesia and marvel at the enchanting beauty of this tropical island in the Indonesian archipelago. Its picturesque setting is so immaculate and stunning, that it appears to be a painted backdrop, only, that such beauty can be perpetuated only by the masterstroke of God himself.

Bali, Indonesia is a picture perfect holiday destination for one and all. Marked by rice paddies tripping down hillsides like giant steps, volcanoes soaring up through the clouds, lush tropical jungle, charming stretches of soft sandy beaches, glittering turquoise water, crashing surf and warm and friendly people who don't just have a culture but actually live it. Bali is where life is a celebration, every occasion is an excuse for revelry and where good times never stop, not even in a funeral. Golden sunshine or silvery moonlight, Bali is where fun never ends.

Bali Island, Indonesia has something for all ages, offering something for everyone. This tropical paradise while retaining its rustic charm and rich past and heritage has extended modern tourist facilities combined with wonderful shopping opportunities to its guests. The Balinese people are proud of having preserved their unique Hindu culture against the advance of Islam, the dominant religion throughout Indonesia.
